MR NELSON MANDELA'S ENDORSEMENT OF YESTERDAY
The Nelson Mandela Foundation is committed to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. At the same time we are building strategic partnerships to facilitate and implement programmes that can make a difference. One such partnership is with Anant Singh and Videovision Entertainment. The script to the film YESTERDAY is truly inspiring, and we are delighted to have supported its production. YESTERDAY shows the commitment of the private sector to move beyond the conventional HIV/AIDS rhetoric, towards real action and active engagement with the pandemic and its devastating impact. YESTERDAY will also contribute to 46664, our global awareness campaign. The medium of film is one that effectively mobilises people from grassroots level, those that may be infected, through to corporates and international donors. We believe that the essence of YESTERDAY is that those who watch it will hear the message, see and grasp it, act on it and pass it on.
We plan to use YESTERDAY as a resource across in our Social Development Programme. The HIV/AIDS and Education projects will be able to allow communities to interact with the film, engage with the circumstances it presents, and with specific responses to the characters portrayed. We are confident that this will assist in spreading the message of prevention, caring for and supporting those infected and affected by the pandemic and most importantly highlight the need to remove stigma and discrimination.
YESTERDAY is an eloquent, unsentimental film that quietly builds an overwhelming emotional force.
